The Fred Meijer Medical Innovation Building will create an ecosystem to enable synergies between academic medicine, healthcare delivery systems, industry partners, and Michigan State University in the transformation of health. Rockford Construction reached out to CARNEVALE to help communicate the architectural vision to stakeholders and to the public during the site’s groundbreaking ceremony. 

To fully immerse groundbreaking attendees in the future space, an entire city block was created in true-to-life scale augmented reality. CARNEVALE pushed the boundaries of contemporary AR experiences, and our team was laser-focused on crafting architectural elements at the finest level of detail. Attendees explored the site on phones and tablets, appreciating the atrium’s grand, ascending tower and discussing the global health community unfolding in the Grand Rapids skyline.

The design and development team at CARNEVALE released the app fully tested while the project management team made sure the meticulously planned details were implemented at the groundbreaking. The solution elicited praise from the groups involved; Rockford Construction, Michigan State University, Walsh Construction, Walsh Investors, Murphy Development Group, SmithGroup architects, and the City of Grands Rapids, along with future tenants BAMF Health and Spectrum Health. Ultimately the project brought stakeholders together to envision, collaborate, and implement a key piece of healthcare innovation for cancer research, artificial intelligence, Neurodevelopmental and Neurodegenerative Disorders and medical devices.
